• Software still holds up better than services. The median software exit ranks at the 59th percentile of PE exits; the median services exit, the 32nd.
• The strongest companies are consistently strong. Of the top 20 exits, 13 rank in the top 20% on all 5 primary metrics (Product, Data, Revenue, Market Position, and Business Model), not just one.
• Every company can improve. When we looked at one PE sponsor's portfolio, the average company jumped 17 percentile points: 12 from internal improvements and 5 from light M&A and partnership work. That took 16 of its 20 current companies into the top 20% of PE exits.
